Anger/Wrath Activities
Choose one of the following
activities, do it, and write a 300-400-word reflection paper on It making sure
that your reflection includes discussion of the vice
(if you do an activity that shows up again,
you must choose a different activity)
1. For 72 hours, keep track of
the occasions during which you become angry, annoyed, frustrated, or
irritated. Note what the reason was. (E.g., was the occasion of
anger an offense to you, or to someone else?) Note how angry you became,
for how long, and whether the anger recurred after some reminder of the initial
occasion. After you have finished reflect on commonalities between the objects
of your anger (frustration, annoyance, etc) and how what you get angry about
reveals what you care about.
2. For 24 hours briefly record every time you get angry,
frustrated, annoyed, etc. For the next
48 hours, attempt to see everyone you encounter as first and foremost your
neighbor, and attempt to love them as though they are you. After you have done this for 48 hours reflect
on how your levels of anger, frustration, annoyance, etc. changed
3. Choose one person that you
have offended and apologize to him or her (preferably in person). Choose one
person that has irritated or bothered you and forgive that person; you must
attempt to let the person know that you have forgiven them (but do so only if
it is appropriate)
4. Attempt to discover from
Holy Scripture the various things that anger God. Compare and contrast the things that make God
angry with the things that make you angry (frustrated, annoyed, etc).
