Sloth Activities
Choose one of the following
activities, do it, and write a 300-400-word reflection paper on It making sure
that your reflection includes discussion of the vice
(if you do an activity that shows up again,
you must choose a different activity)
1.
Spend one hour in a sacred space in complete silence, not speaking
to anyone, reading anything or writing anything—just sitting in silence, and
fleeing distraction. (Sacred spaces include: church, prayer room,
cemetery, etc)
2.
Spend fifteen minutes (continuous) a day in prayer for four days in
a row. Make sure that you are in a place
where external distractions are eliminated.
Your goal is to pray for the entire time without distraction. Take note of how often your mind wanders and
try to get better at focusing each time.
(Prayer includes: praise, supplication, meditation, petition,
confession, etc)
3.
Find someone you
have hurt or are estranged from in any way and attempt to reconcile or at least
attempt to begin the reconciliation process.
Find someone who has hurt you in any way and let them know how you
feel. Tell them that you want reconciliation
or to forgive them.
4.
Keep track all this week of how you spend your time. For at least
two days out of the week, keep track in 15 minute blocks. (They can be
the first and last day, or any two days you choose.) Which parts are you
proud of and which parts are a little shameful to admit that you spent that much
time on? What does this show about your habits, priorities and desires?
5.
Pick a somewhat lengthy passage from scripture (around 5 to 10 verses)
and spend 15 minutes a day memorizing it (it must be a passage you have never
memorized before). Once you have
memorized the entire passage, meditate on it for three days in a row.
